The centre spans an area of 1.1 million square metres. It comprises 3 main halls, a conference hall, a state-of-the-art exhibition hall, a multipurpose hall, a business centre, and a theatre.

Architectural Materials Used

Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre is a world-class facility designed to be functional and aesthetically pleasing. Various architectural materials were used in its construction, including concrete, stainless steel, glass, and stone.

Concrete was used extensively in constructing the Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre. This extremely strong and durable material makes it ideal for use in large structures like this one. Stainless steel products, such as columns, handrails, and wall cladding, were also used throughout the building, providing additional support and strength.

The glass was used extensively in the design of the Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre. This material allows abundant natural light to enter the building, creating a bright and welcoming atmosphere. Stone was also used throughout the exterior of the building, providing a classic look that is sure to impress visitors.

Impact on the Local Architecture Scene

The opening of the Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre in 2016 was a significant milestone for the country, and it has had a significant impact on the local architecture scene. It is one of the most iconic buildings in Oman, which has put Muscat on the map as a destination for architectural tourism.

The centre is designed by award-winning architects HOK, and its unique design features two interlocking elliptical shells that create a ‘double-skinned’ effect. The exterior of the building is clad in natural stone, giving it a striking appearance that is in keeping with the traditional architecture of Oman.

The OCEC has also had an impact on the way that new buildings are being designed in Oman. There is now a greater focus on creating architecturally significant buildings that will put Oman on the map as a country with cutting-edge architecture. This is something that was not really on the radar before the opening of the OCEC.
